Chapter 7:

Mina

“Mommy, can you wake up! I want to go see daddy!” I felt Bentlee’s little hands slapping my back and I remembered that I had fallen asleep with her instead of in the bed with Boo. Jumping up from her temporary bed, I went into the restroom to handle my hygiene and she followed to do the same. As I brushed my teeth, I couldn’t help but to feel overwhelmed with everything that was going on around me and I just prayed that we could get back to what was normal to us. Finishing up in the restroom, Bentlee and I grabbed our robes and walked out into the hallway.

“There goes my girl.” My mother said with a huge smile on her face at the sight of Bentlee walking out.

“Hey maw-maw! I missed you!” I giggled because my baby was so extra. My mama was the last face she saw last night before falling asleep in her lap and now she’s in here screaming that she missed her.

“Maw-Maw missed you too Junnie. Are you coming to help me with breakfast?” She asked, but I already knew the answer.

“No ma’am, I’m going help daddy, remember!” She said as she showed her grandma the iPad and photo album she had grabbed from the room before we walked out. It was actually an album filled with herself and featured her father and I. I had started the album from the moment I found out I was having a girl and it included everything from a picture of the multiple pregnancy test that I had taken, to the 3D ultra sounds that we had done and up until her most recent pictures of her visiting her father in the hospital.

“Ohhh, that’s a big job for a special girl and I am sure that you are up for the task. Maybe you should go talk to paw-paw for a second, I think he has something for you. Oh, and Amina is down there too.” My mama said, right before Bentlee took off into the living room where I’m sure my father was sitting with Amina on his lap with a cup of coffee and the newspaper. No matter how many times I showed him that he could access it on his iPad, he was old school and wanted to feel the paper in his hands. Amina would be right there with him as if she knew what she was reading. Amina was my little sister who was just a few months younger than Bentlee. That shit was crazy that my mother and I were pregnant at the same time, but while pregnant she slowed up on her drinking. Right after having Amina, she was right back chasing a bottle. As soon as Bentlee was out of sight, my mother’s smile dropped.

“Mama, please don’t start. Not now.” I pleaded, already knowing that she was about to start with her advice from the night before.

“I have taken it upon myself to get you the name of a really good divorce attorney, Mina.
